Sand Dune City

Jockey’s Ridge State Park, Kitty Hawk, NC, March 2010

Imagine endless sand dunes towering 80 feet high. Picture windswept sand that you must trudge through and worry about getting buried in. Imagine so much sand that you fear getting lost and no one being able to find you. Envision a sprinkling of grassy sea oats dotting the otherwise uninterrupted sandy landscape.

Such is Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head, North Carolina, near the famed Outer Banks. JOCKEY’S RIDGE is the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States.
